Have you ever looked at a regular set of 2D plans and felt a little uncertainty? A little doubt? That's exactly what we're trying to eliminate.
Conventional design techniques don't speak to the client - they don't show the client how the home will 'feel'.
We are currently working on sharing 360 renderings with our clients - these 360 views give you a much more realistic feel for your (yet to be built) home.
We believe that a home plan should be experienced by our clients, not simply viewed in 2D.
Stay tuned, we won't be satisfied until we are absolutely leading our industry in providing the best customer design experience!
More info on our VR design page.
What's up guys? We are trying hard to master the 3D design world...we are considering drawing all of our plans in 3D so you can see what each and every house 'feels' like, right on our website from the comfort of your home...
Let us know what you think!
In an attempt to improve ourselves and our ability to give our clients an awesome experience, we have been learning a lot about gratitude lately.
This sums it up nicely;
"Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, routine jobs into joy and ordinary opportunities into blessings."
- Peter J. Bone
Three weeks ago, one of our amazing clients (Lindsey) sent us a testimonial video to post on Facebook. Feeling grateful, I thought that gratitude would be a fitting theme for the post. A friend of Lindsey's (Janet Mann) teaches at Weldon School in Bienfait, SK. Janet saw our post, and commented that she wanted to show her class the video, because she wanted to show her kids how people were using gratitude to change the world.
This struck me as a great opportunity to connect with some kids, share what we've learned about gratitude, helping others, and goal setting. We ended up talking for over an hour.
It was absolutely awesome to learn from these 46 kids in grades 5, 6, 7 & 8. They shared what they were passionate about, what they were scared of, how they've witnessed people helping other people, and what they were grateful for.
Some of the things the kids from Weldon School were passionate about; music, animals, dance, hockey, video games, art, gymnastics, figure skating, electronics, and martial arts.
Some of the things they were grateful for; friends, family, mom, dad, pets, electronics (ha!), sports, homes to live in, clothes to wear, meals to eat. How awesome is this list? Doesn't it put it all in perspective?
Some of the things they wanted to do, but were a little scared of; taming a lion (love this one Angelina- set big goals!), playing boys hockey (well done Jesa!!), and being the captain of the hockey team (you'll get your C Mason!).
Some examples of how they'd seen people help other people; helping neighbours with shovelling snow, helping elderly folks cross the street, helping people carry grocery bags, holding the door for people, and returning a lost dog! I love how these simple acts stood out to these kids!
Once again, we are grateful for the opportunity to have met these awesome kids and their amazing teachers & principal.
Thank you Janet, Nina, and Chanda for making this possible, and thank you to the amazing students in grades 5, 6, 7 & 8 at Weldon School! We are excited to hear about you guys crushing your goals and changing the world around you!!
It's hard to believe, but it's hockey season again!
The kids are back on the ice, we are putting on a ton of miles driving to practices, home & away games & tournaments, drinking questionable rink coffee, and buying hundreds of dollars of rink burgers and candy bags...this is what we live for!
You're probably wondering what hockey season has to do with building homes...hockey season is the perfect time to plan ahead for your upcoming build!
With that in mind, we have a great promo that will run for the next while;
A $500 design deposit now buys you a preliminary set of plans (floorplan & elevations). With your preliminary plans in hand you can talk to the banks to get your finances in order, you can meet with trades, with your town or county/municipality, basically you can start planning ahead. As the saying goes, he who fails to plan, plans to fail!
As a reward for planning ahead, we will also offer you a $1,000 credit towards your build!
Give us a call today at 1-888-463-8755, or shoot us a message on Facebook (fb.me/msg/SK2Building). We'll fill you in and get you started!
Earlier this week Steve and I drove out to Weyburn to mark out some options for the basement location for Lindsey & Tyler's house (we are building their awesome 1451 sq. ft custom RTM home as we speak).
Weyburn is about 520 KMs one way from our office, so we had roughly 12 hours in the truck...one of the topics that kept coming up is how much fun we have with our clients. We talked about how our approach (build relationships first, and then build the home) is different, and why it works.
We know from experience that if you get to know your clients first, you can make better recommendations regarding their home. Combined, we've built about 450 homes during our time in the building industry - the funny thing is, none of this experience helps unless you get to know the client fairly well. How can you use the knowledge you've acquired to make a proper recommendation regarding their new home if you don't know them very well? Family size, age of the kids, interests, hobbies, schedules, interests, annoyances, the list goes on and on. The more you know about your client, the better you can serve them.
#NamesNotNumbers is about never taking the personal aspect out of the home building process. Why? Because it makes a difference at every stage of the build.
The awesome painted maple cabinets & quartz countertops I just ordered are not going to be installed in House #2016-08, they'll be installed in Lindsey & Tyler's kitchen. Their boys are going to love eating breakfast at the island.
Here's another example:
Scenario # 1 - The recessed light above the entertainment center in House #2016-08 is 1" off center, no big deal right? It's just an inch!
Scenario # 2 - The recessed light above Lindsey & Tyler's entertainment center is 1" off center. Shit! We can't leave it like that, we promised them it would be done right, we better get Rob (the electrician) back here.
See the difference?
We become friends with our clients, we get to know them. We start a group chat with all of our clients so that we can all stay on the same page before/during/after the build (this is super useful, and usually pretty entertaining 😆). This does a few things that directly impact the build:
This approach has a huge impact on our builds, and we are trying to figure out how we can share this with the building industry in general. This industry needs to focus more on the client relationship and we are doing our part to push in that direction.
Have a great weekend!!
Spring is a fun time of year. The snow slowly melts away, and while it's kind of messy for a month or so, you know what's around the corner. You can almost smell the summer barbecues, and the freshly cut grass. Summer is coming!
The best part of spring (from a homebuilders perspective) is watching people get excited. It's been a long winter. Maybe this old house is getting a little small... Maybe we need to build a garage... Is this year the year we finally build that cottage instead of just camping at the lake? Should we think about building? It's an exciting thought, but maybe a little intimidating.
This is where we get excited! Not just the fact that we've got some new prospective clients, but the fact that we have the opportunity to help, to dispell the myths that building a home is scary, or complicated, or will cost more than you've budgeted... Accomplishing this is what keeps us going. Helping people realize their dreams, turning their wishes and hopes into something tangible, something real.
Homebuilding is one of the most stressful businesses to be in, but also the most rewarding, and we live for it.
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to help you!
So you're considering building with SK2, and you are probably wondering what is included and what isn't...good question!
To summarize quickly;
If you are in ND or MN;
If you are in SK or MB;
Please take a look at the video above and let us know if you've got any questions!
We get a lot of construction-related questions from friends, family members, and potential clients. It always feels good to help someone with the knowledge that we've acquired over the years, so we thought we would bring this to a larger scale!
Please feel free to send in your questions, we will do our best to post a weekly show with the answers you're looking for!
